[October 09, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- A Cahokia woman fell asleep at the wheel Tuesday morning near mile marker 139 on Interstate 55. Angelique Hill, 21, of Cahokia, was northbound at 7:54 a.m. in a silver Chevrolet Impala, with passengers, David L. Gaines, 23, of Carbondale and a 2-year-old, also from Cahokia.

Hill fell asleep, and when she awakened she swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle. The Impala crossed the median, rolled over and came to rest in the southbound left lane.

Hill and the 2-year-old female passenger were transported to St. John's Hospital in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries. Gaines was treated at the scene and refused further treatment.

Assisting the Illinois State Police at the scene were the Logan County Sheriff's Department, Lincoln Police Department, Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire and Rescue, and Logan County Paramedics.
