[October 13, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted rain and cooler temperatures from the Great Lakes to New England on Saturday, while showers and thunderstorms were expected in the central Plains and Mississippi Valley.

Two systems were expected to bring rain to a region stretching from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. Cooler temperatures were also expected, with both the Great Lakes and Northeast experiencing highs from the 40s to the 60s.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms were expected in the central Plains, moving later in the day into the Mississippi Valley.

Rain was also expected in the Southwest and Great Basin, and snow was expected in the central Rockies.

Highs in the Southern Plains were expected to reach into the 80s and 90s, while the Southeast was expected to see temperatures in the 70s and 80s.

The Northwest was expected to see highs from the 50s to the 70s.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Bridgeport, Calif., to a high of 99 degrees at Pecos, Texas.
