The Chicago native graded out at 98 percent while paving the way for
three Redbird 100-yard rushers. The trio of Rafael Rice, Geno Blow
and Cortes Rice became the first threesome in both Illinois State
and Gateway history to each rush for 100 yards or more in the same
game. The Redbirds scored touchdowns on their first 10
possessions, including seven rushing TDs.
In all, the Redbirds racked up 598 yards of total offense against
the Sycamores. The 444 yards on the ground marked the second-highest
rushing total in school history.
Wiggins played 66 of the 81 Redbird snaps without allowing a sack
or having a missed assignment. He also recorded eight knockdowns in
the win.
Wiggins became the second Redbird to claim the league's offensive
lineman of the week honor, joining Joe Niklasch, who received the
award Sept. 10.
Illinois State returns to action Saturday, when the Redbirds
travel to No. 12 Youngstown State for a Gateway tilt. Kickoff is
scheduled for 3 p.m. CDT. (Game notes)
