[October 20, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted heavy rain and mountain snow from the Intermountain West to Washington state on Saturday, while lingering showers were expected in the Northeast.

Heavy rain and snow were expected the mountains of the Intermountain West, gradually moving southeastward into the Rockies, where snow levels were expected to be lower.

Meanwhile, continuing showers and isolated thunderstorms were expected in parts of Washington and Oregon, with the heaviest precipitation in the Cascades. Snow advisories were in effect for the Cascades through much of the morning.

A cold front was expected to push off the eastern seaboard and allow the East to dry out, but some showers were expected to linger even as the front moves into the Atlantic Ocean.

Temperatures in the Northwest and northern Rockies were expected to rise into the 30s and 40s at higher elevations and into the 50s elsewhere.

The Southwest and southern Plains were expected to see temperatures in the 80s and 90s.
