[October 25, 2007]  MINIER -- Minier's German heritage will come to life on Saturday as the community celebrates its first Octoberfest. The village will come alive with German food, spirits and live entertainment from 4 to 11 p.m.

Events will take place along Main Street and in the parking lot behind the Alpine Village restaurant. German and American food and beer will be available. Alpine Village will host a sumptuous German buffet featuring brats, schnitzel and rouladen, an array of German side dishes, and salad bar.

Activities include a cruise-in on Main Street from 4 to 7 p.m. Dash plaques will be given to the first 40 entries.

Village Flowers and Hometown Variety stores will be open from 4 to 7 p.m., offering fall merchandise for visitors.

The strains of music will fill the crisp night air. A German band from the Bloomington-Normal Community Band will perform from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by Hip Pocket, the popular central Illinois rhythm and blues band, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The Octoberfest will be hosted by the Minier Economic Development Council. MEDCO is a nonprofit, volunteer-staffed organization whose mission includes encouraging economic growth and improving the quality of life in the Minier area.
