[September 01, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD– Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced that 10 fire departments have been selected to receive a total of nearly $1.9 million in no-interest loans to purchase much-needed fire trucks through the state’s Fire Truck Revolving Loan Program. This is the second phase of a loan program that has already helped 63 fire departments.

“The Fire Truck Revolving Loan Program has helped many fire departments throughout the state buy the fire trucks they need to protect the people of their communities,” said Gov. Blagojevich. “These no-interest loans make it possible for small departments with tight budgets to purchase a fire truck that will serve their community for many years to come.”

The Fire Truck Revolving Loan Program, administered by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), provides no-interest, 20-year loans to local fire departments and fire protection districts for the purchase of fire trucks. The maximum loan award is $250,000. The loan program was created by legislation signed by Gov. Blagojevich in 2003. In August 2004, 63 fire departments were selected to receive the initial revolving loans. Payments on those loans go into the revolving loan fund, and were used for this latest round of loans.

Loan recipients were chosen from more than 70 applications submitted to the OSFM. A nine-member review committee comprising representatives of the banking industry and the fire services conducted a blind review of the applications and selected recipients on the basis of need.
