A high pressure system to the north is expected to bring dry conditions from the Plains through the Northeast.
Meanwhile, a low pressure system and associated frontal system will likely move through the intermountain West and Rockies, bringing rain to parts of Montana and North Dakota and thunderstorms to parts of the Southwest and southern Rockies.
Temperatures in the Southwest and California are expected to be in the 90s and 100s, while the Southeast and southern Plains should experience temperatures about 10 degrees cooler. Temperatures in the Northeast are expected to be in the 60s, 70s and 80s, while the Northwest should get temperatures in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 36 degrees at Land O Lakes, Wis., to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
