A cold front was expected over the Midwest, bringing heavy rain to parts of the region and possible flooding.
On the East Coast, mostly clear skies were expected, with increases in high temperatures and humidity, A few afternoon thunderstorms were possible in the region, especially along the Carolina coast.
In the West, clear skies were expected across the region, except for coastal areas, where fog is expected.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 33 degrees at Presque Isle, Maine, to a high of 112 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
