            [September 11, 2007]
NEW YORK -- The United States
Coast Guard Auxiliary remembers one of its own on the sixth
anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, now known as Patriot Day, and also
urges Americans to demonstrate their patriotism by participating in
the America's Waterway Watch program and by joining the Coast Guard
			Auxiliary. |

            | Gregory Sikorsky, 35, of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary was killed
on Sept. 11, 2001, during the collapse of the World Trade Center. He
was a volunteer firefighter for the Hillcrest, N.Y., Fire
Department. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps Reserve and the
Persian Gulf War. A member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1995,
he was in Division 10 in the 1st District, Southern Region. He is
survived by his wife, Maria, and a son, Steven. A memorial Mass was
held Oct. 20, 2001, at Saint Boniface Roman Catholic Church in New
York. We also remember the following
U.S. Coast Guard reservists who lost their lives on that fateful day
			six years ago:

Let us not forget the other heroes, from the Port Authority of
New York and New Jersey Police Department, the New York City Police
Department, the New York City Fire Department, and all the men and
women whose lives were cut short in this tragedy.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary also urges citizens to demonstrate
their patriotism in the following ways:

				Those who live,
work or play around our nation's waterways are urged to
participate in America's Waterway Watch program, which is
essentially a "neighborhood watch program on the water." The
program has a toll-free number, 1-877-24-WATCH, to report
suspicious activities. For more information, visit

				www.americaswaterwaywatch.org.
				For those wanting
to volunteer their services to their country, take a look at the
opportunities offered by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Members
can take advantage of numerous training opportunities and can
participate in virtually all missions authorized for the Coast
Guard except direct law enforcement and military actions. For
more information on joining the Coast Guard Auxiliary, visit
				www.join.cgaux.org or
				call 1-877-875-6296.

Lastly, the Coast Guard Auxiliary urges all Americas to be "Semper
Paratus" -- always ready for all threats, all hazards -- natural or
man-made. Remember, to be a survivor, wear your life jacket! The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is composed of uniformed
volunteers who assist the Coast Guard in all of its varied missions
except for military and direct law enforcement. These men and women
can be found performing a variety of missions on the nation's
waterways, in the air, in classrooms and on the dock, performing
maritime domain awareness patrols, safety patrols, vessel safety
checks and public education. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded in 1939 by an
act of Congress as the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and redesignated as
the auxiliary in 1941. Over 27,000 members donate millions of hours
annually in support of Coast Guard missions. For more information on the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary,
			visit www.cgaux.org or
