Car-truck crash kills one           Send a link to a friend

[September 19, 2007]  A crash at Logan County's southern border, near Williamsville, resulted in the death of a St. Louis man on Monday afternoon. The incident closed a portion of Interstate 55 northbound at milepost 112 at 4:40, and traffic was rerouted.

The driver of a Chevrolet Impala, Albert M. Larkin, 33, and his passenger, Terrance C. Ensley, 29, both of St. Louis, were traveling southbound on I-55. For unknown reasons the vehicle crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes.

Larkin's vehicle then struck a white 2003 Peterbilt semitrailer driven by William R. Giles, 48, of Milwaukee, Wis.

Larkin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Logan County coroner. His passenger, Ensley, was transported to St. John's Hospital in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries.

Giles, the driver of the truck, was also transported to St. John's with non-life-threatening injuries.

Agencies assisting the Illinois State Police at the scene were the Williamsville Fire Department, Riverton Fire Department, Lifestar Ambulance, Springfield Area Ambulance, Williamsville Police Department, Sangamon County Sheriff's Department, Illinois Department of Transportation and the Logan County coroner's office.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
