[September 26, 2007]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

St. Clara's Manor sponsors bingo

St. Clara's Manor will sponsor the Thursday afternoon bingo, beginning at 1 p.m. Come join the fun and win some prizes.

Foot care

The Oasis is offering a new service. Marcia Cook from the Christian Village has found a registered nurse who will begin providing foot care by appointment on the first Monday of the month. Emma Van Dyke, R.N., will be at The Oasis from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 1. Call 732-6132 for an appointment.

Book club

The senior center's book club will meet Monday, beginning at 1 p.m. (The date has been changed due to the Columbus Day holiday the following week.) Rekindle the rewards of reading a book and either sharing your thoughts with the group or just sitting back and listening to others. Refreshments will be provided.

Meeters & Greeters

The Meeters and Greeters group will meet Monday, beginning at 2 p.m., at the senior center. This group of volunteers visits once a month with those who cannot get out, to add a bright spot in their life. If you would like to participate or would like more information, call 732-6132.

Oasis belles

The Oasis Red Hat group will meet on Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m. Please call 732-6132 by noon Monday to make lunch reservations. Put on your red hat and come join the lively bunch of ladies.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Oct. 2 will feature Swedish meatballs over noodles, mixed veggies, bread and butter, dessert, and a drink for $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Reservation deadline is 4 p.m. Friday.

Rules of the Road

The secretary of state's office continues to offer a Rules of the Road course free of charge to all interested parties. The course is scheduled at the senior center on Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m. The course is designed to assist individuals who may have to take a written exam or the behind-the-wheel test. For more information, please call 732-6132.

Bingo at the Rec

The Tuesday night bingo special at the Lincoln Park District Rec Center will be "Top Hat Night." Purchase a Top Hat set of four games and get a discount on your computer. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games start at 6:50.

Hearing screening

The Oasis provides free hearing checks the first Wednesday of the month, beginning at 10 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. The service is provided by Joyce Dearth, B.C.H.I.S. Call 732-6132 for an appointment.

Fall card party

The Oasis will have its fall card party Oct. 6, beginning at 1 p.m. Come and join the fun playing pinochle, bridge and rummy. Tickets are available at the senior center for $5.

The Oasis closed Oct. 8

The Oasis will be closed Oct. 8 for Columbus Day. Activities will resume the following day.

Winners for the week announced

Kathy Roos and Lucky Eichner were the weekday pinochle winners. The weekend pinochle winners were Ruth Ackerman and Linda Hughes. The winners at five-in-one were Ruth Barry, Bernie DePuy and Betty Burger. The rummy winner was Betty Burger.
