[September 29, 2007]  (AP) The East was forecast to be mostly dry on Saturday, while low pressure sweeping through the West was expected to bring heavy rain and some snow to the Rockies before moving into the Plains.

Winter warnings were in effect for the Intermountain West. Strong winds were forecast for the Great Basin and parts of the Southwest.

Another Pacific storm system was expected to slam into the Northwest, bringing heavy rain to the region through Sunday.

High pressure building in the eastern third of the country was expected to keep the region dry, except for possible showers in the upper Midwest. Showers and thunderstorms were also forecast for the southern tip of Texas.

The southern Plains and Southeast were forecast to rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Northeast was to see temperatures in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The Northwest and Intermountain West were expected to be cool, with temperatures rising into the 30s, 40s and 50s, while the Southwest was expected to see temperatures in the 80s, 90s and 100s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Bridgeport, Calif., to a high of 99 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
