 "I was apprehensive at first," Loggins told The Associated Press backstage Thursday at the new MTV reality show starring the offspring of famous musicians. "I turned it down three times. They kept coming back to me saying,
'We really want you to be part of this. We're not here to make fun of you or belittle your parent's career. We're here to give you a chance.'"
Each week, one descendent will be eliminated from the MTV singing competition. The winner will receive a record deal from Jive and $100,000.
Singer Belinda Carlisle, choreographer Jamie King, stylist June Ambrose and producer-manager Larry Rudolph act as the show's judges and have the power to save one contestant from being voted off by viewers.
"It's much harder for kids, even our kids, to break through these days," Olivia Newton-John told the AP before the show. "Everyone wants to be a singer since
'American Idol.'"
Loggins is competing "Idol"-style against Chloe Rose Lattanzi, daughter of Newton-John; Landon Brown, son of Bobby Brown; Lucy Walsh, daughter of the Eagles' Joe Walsh; A'Keiba Burrell-Hammer, daughter of M.C. Hammer; Lara Johnston, daughter of Doobie Brothers' Tom Johnston; Jesse Money, daughter of Eddie Money; Jesse Blaze Snider, son of Twisted Sister's Dee Snider and Lil Al B. Sure!, son of Al B. Sure!

 During Thursday's live "Rock the Cradle" premiere, Loggins performed Elvis Costello's "(What's So Funny
'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding." Loggins said contestants who continue in the competition will be tasked with performing a song from their parents. He said he'd pick "Danny's Song."
"He's proud of me for having the balls to do this," Loggins said about his father. "He knows I've worked my whole career to disassociate myself from him until I had enough legitimacy. "
