Wind Advisory in Effect Until 7 p.m. Friday

[April 11, 2008]  A strong low pressure center over Iowa will move slowly to the northeast, reaching Wisconsin by Friday evening. Strong gusty winds around the low will increase to 35 mph with gusts to near 50 mph Friday over portions of central Illinois.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a wind advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Friday for the counties of Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Fulton, Tazewell, McLean, Schuyler, Mason, Logan, DeWitt, Piatt, Champaign, Vermilion, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan, Sangamon, Christian, Macon, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar and Shelby, including the cities of Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana, Lincoln, Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Jacksonville, Springfield, Taylorville, Decatur, Charleston, Mattoon and Shelbyville.

Strong gusty winds of 35 mph with gusts to near 50 mph will be possible today. The winds are expected to begin to diminish toward the evening hours.

A wind advisory means that sustained winds of 30 mph are expected, with gusts to 45 mph. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
