Light snow was possible in the southern Appalachians, but significant accumulations were unlikely. The Southeast was expect to see lingering showers as a low pressure system develops off the coast.
Temperatures there weren't forecast to rise above the lower 70s, while highs in the 40s and 50s were expected across much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
The West Coast was also likely to see cooler weather as a cool trough of low pressure approaches from the Pacific. More hot weather was forecast for the Great Basin and Rockies.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 7 degrees at Hayward, Wis., to a high of 100 degrees at Yuma, Ariz.
