[April 15, 2008]  New scenery is something runners will enjoy at this year's Lincoln College annual 5K Run, Ramble and Roll. The race and noncompetitive one-mile walk is scheduled for April 26, with a start time of 10 a.m.

Rick Samuels, Lincoln College development officer and race coordinator, says he is anticipating a good mix of both runners and walkers. "This year we have made contact with the Springfield Road Runners Club, and we hope to see additional runners participate," said Samuels. The Lincoln College event hopes to become a points race on the SRRC calendar in the future.

According to Samuels, the course is changing somewhat but will still begin on campus and wind through the Lincoln area. "The new course should provide runners with excellent times due to the flat terrain and long straight runs. The finish line is right in front of the McKinstry Library," he said.

Awards will be presented immediately following the race to top male and female finishers. A random drawing with runners' tag numbers for various prizes will immediately follow.

The entry fee is $20 per person if postmarked by April 19. After that the fee is $25. All participants receive a T-shirt, post-race brunch in the campus dining hall and a goody bag that will include a free chair massage at Lincoln College's Midwest College of Cosmetology in Normal.

Runners and walkers are encouraged to preregister but can sign up the day of the race. Race day registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. in front of the Meyer-Evans Student Center in the 800 block of Ottawa Street. Registration will end at 9:45 a.m. to accommodate the start of the race.

All proceeds from the race and walk will go to the Lincoln College Scholarship Fund. In the past the event generated approximately $2,000 to help students with scholarship needs.
