The ceremony will start the annual Lincoln College Alumni Reunion
Weekend celebration, which runs April 25-26. Congressman Ray LaHood
of the 18th District will be a guest at the WLNX ribbon-cutting
event. WLNX General Manager John Malone hopes the community will
visit the studios and see the updated equipment. "Lincoln College
has worked very hard to reinvest in a long-range communication
program in hopes of attracting more students. One goal is that more
students will take a greater interest in WLNX to hopefully turn
their experiences at Lincoln College into something they can use as
a career path," said Malone.
Lincoln College's radio station entered the airwaves in 1974 and
was originally housed in the basement of University Hall. The
founder of the radio station was Brayton Danner, a longtime science
instructor at Lincoln College.
The purpose of WLNX is to provide Lincoln College students with
real broadcasting experience, done in the same manner as a
commercial radio station.
Currently, WLNX serves an audience within a listening radius of
approximately 10 miles from the college. In 2007, WLNX began
streaming on the Internet, with access available at
www.wlnxradio.com.
