Oasis update

[April 30, 2008]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Bingo sponsored by Maple Ridge

Maple Ridge Care Centre will sponsor the bingo games at The Oasis on Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Beginner's pinochle

Need to brush up on pinochle? Or would you like to learn how to play pinochle? There's a chance every Monday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., at the senior center.

VA schedule

The representative from the Veterans Administration will be gone May 6, 13 and 20 but will be back May 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Meeters and Greeters

The Meeters and Greeters group will meet at the senior center at 2 p.m. Monday. This group of volunteers visits once a month with those who cannot get out, adding a bright spot in their life. If you would like to participate or would like more information, please call 732-6132.

Oasis Belles

The Oasis Red Hat group, The Oasis Belles, will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday. After the meeting, lunch is available for purchase. Please call 732-6132 the day before for a reservation.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for May 6 features meatloaf, baked potatoes, salad, bread and butter, and dessert. The cost of the meal is $3.75; or, if you stay and play cards, the cost of the meal is $3.25. The deadline to make reservations is Monday noon.

Bingo at the Rec

The computer special for Tuesday night bingo at the Lincoln Rec Center is "Computer Paper Night." Discounts are as follows: with a $12 computer, get up to $2 worth of paper games free; $16 computer, get up to $4 worth of paper games free; and $20 computer, get up to $6 worth of paper games free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Early bird is 6:50.

Hearing screening

Free hearing tests will be available May 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the senior center. Joyce Dearth, B.C.H.I.S., from the Hearing Aid Center, provides the service. Service is by appointment only. Call the senior center at 732-6132.

Card winners

The card winners for weekday pinochle were Lucky Eichner, Kathy Roos and Eleanor Barton. The weekend winners were Helen Cart, Linda Hughes and Wilbur Wilmert. The winners at five-in-one were Ruth Barry, Dorothy Oltmanns and Ella Lee Graney.

Spring card party winners

At the spring card party, pinochle winners were Eleanor Barton, Dorothy Haseley and Paulene Boward. Bridge winners were Itah Horton, Sis Dehner and Bernie DePuy. Rummy winners were Dorothy Oltmanns, Ruth Barry and Marilyn Schneider.

Bunco winners

Bunco winners were Ruth Barry, Mary Fuller, Sharon Lahr and Ella Lee Graney.
