[April 30, 2008]  MINIER -- On Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., residents of Minier and the surrounding communities are invited to join their friends and neighbors for a prayer breakfast at the Minier Christian Church.

This will be the first time for an event like this in Minier on the National Day of Prayer. The breakfast replaces the noon prayer services around the flagpole at Veterans Memorial Park.

The speaker for the breakfast will be Gregg Walters, a native son of Minier, who graduated from Olympia High School in 1986. He and his wife, Candy, reside in Morton with their three daughters and attend Grace Church. He currently serves as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Department of Justice and previously spoke at the prayer breakfast in Morton in 2006.

The menu includes breakfast casserole, sweet rolls, coffee and juice.

People planning to attend may RSVP through their local church or by contacting the Minier Christian Church at 309-392-2290.

Donations will be received to cover the cost of the breakfast. Money received in excess of the cost of the event will be given to the Minier Ministerial Benevolence Fund.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual event, established by an act of Congress, that encourages Americans to pray for our nation, its people and its leaders. This year's theme is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield." The key text for this year's event is found in Psalm 28:7: "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him and I am helped." (NIV)
