Moderate to heavy showers and a chance of thunderstorms were forecast from New England to the Ohio Valley and into the central Plains. Significant rain and thunderstorms were likely in New England. Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine were expected to receive the most rainfall and were at risk for flooding.
Meanwhile, the Midwest was expected to see mostly sunny skies and pleasant weather.
In the Southwest, thunderstorms were forecast for Southern California and Arizona. Significant rain and thunderstorms were also expected in southern Utah and Colorado, with flooding a concern.
The Pacific Northwest was expecting cloudy conditions. Southern Oregon was under a thunderstorm watch.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of 35 degrees at Wisdom, Mont., to a high of 119 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
