[August 08, 2008]  (AP)  Severe weather was forecast for the Northeast on Friday, with thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail outbreaks expected in New York, Vermont and New Hampshire. The area was at risk for flooding.

CivicSevere thunderstorms and potentially damaging winds were expected in the Southeast. Heavy showers were also forecast for northern Mississippi and Alabama.

Monsoon moisture was likely to bring showers and thunderstorms to the Southwest and Intermountain West. Heavy rain predicted for Utah and Colorado could cause flooding. Thunderstorms were also possible in Southern California.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms were forecast for Oregon and Idaho. Central Idaho, in particular, was at risk for flooding, while much of the Pacific Northwest was at risk for fire outbreaks.

Fair conditions were expected in the Midwest and the northern Plains.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of 37 degrees at Berthoud Pass, Colo., to a high of 105 degrees at El Centro, Calif.
