Thunderstorms and continued flooding were forecast for the Southwest and central Rockies. That same weather system was expected to move east later in the day, bringing rain to the southern Plains and increasing thunderstorm activity along the Gulf Coast.
Storms were also anticipated in the interior of New England as a cold front drops into the region. Damaging hail and strong winds were anticipated throughout northern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.
Clear skies were forecast for the central and northern Plains and most of the West Coast.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Berthoud Pass, Colo., to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
