The Northeast was to remain dry and mild. Fay will be prevented from moving to the north by a large high pressure system anchored over the Northeast.
Showers and some thunderstorms were predicted for the middle and lower Mississippi Valley.
In the Northwest, fairly widespread showers were expected from Washington and Oregon through the Intermountain West.
Temperatures were to rise into the 70s and 80s in the Northeast, 90s in the Southeast, 90s and 100s in the Southern Plains and Southwest, and 90s in the Northern Plains.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from 32 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to 111 degrees at Bullhead City, Ariz.
