Josh Beckett was put on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a strained right elbow after the Boston ace was examined by Dr. James Andrews.
"Everything came out, the word would be awesome, from our standpoint," manager Terry Francona said. "Everything was clean. There were a number of tests and Josh came thought with flying colors. Obviously, we hoped for that. We needed to get some closure."
Francona hopes Beckett can return to the rotation on Sept. 5 in Texas.
Beckett was placed on the DL retroactive to Aug. 18.
The Red Sox purchased catcher David Ross' contract.
