[December 09, 2008] (AP) Rain and snow were expected from the Rockies to the East Coast on Tuesday, while storms were forecast for the Mississippi Valley and parts of the Pacific Northwest could see snow.

Hardware The most significant storms were expected across the upper Great Lakes. Wisconsin and Michigan were forecast to get between 6 and 10 inches of snow. Freezing rain and sleet were likely across the southern portions of the Great Lakes. Motorists were warned about possibly dangerous driving conditions because of heavy snowfall and drifts.

Storms over the lower and mid-Mississippi valleys were expected to strengthen and could turn severe by the afternoon.

To the west, light to moderate snow showers were forecast in parts of the Pacific Northwest, while the rest of the West Coast was expected to remain dry and warm.

Temperatures across the Northeast were forecast to range from the 20s to the 60s, while the Southeast was to see temperatures ranging from the 60s to the 80s. The Great Lakes region was expected to range from the 20s to the 40s, while the Southwest was to see temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Monday ranged from a low of minus 23 degrees at Mount Washington, N.H., to a high of 86 degrees at Falfurrias, Texas.
