[December 12, 2008]  (AP)  A storm was taking aim at the Northeast early Friday, dumping ice and snow on Pennsylvania, New York and New England, while a storm packing heavy rain and snow was forecast to slam the Northwest.

CivicIce was expected to accumulate in parts of Pennsylvania, New York and New England. Several inches of snow was likely over inland areas of the Northeast, while heavy rain was forecast for the coastline. Partly cloudy skies were predicted over the Ohio Valley, with lake-effect snow likely over the Great Lakes.

Showers were expected to linger over the Carolinas, but clear skies were otherwise forecast for the Southeast. Most of the Plains was also expected to see clear skies.

A Pacific storm was forecast to dump heavy rain and snow and intense winds on the Northwest. A blizzard warning was issued for parts of eastern Washington and Oregon.

Clear skies and pleasant conditions were expected for most of the Southwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of minus 12 degrees at Grand Forks, N.D., to a high of 83 degrees at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
