Inferno engulfs downtown buildings. 6:22 pm.

A raging fire in Lincoln's downtown square has destroyed three buildings. The initial fire began in Simonson's Floor Covering at 221 S. Kickapoo. The buildings on both sides also have been destroyed as Lincoln firefighters and crews from all surrounding districts fought successfully to keep the disaster from spreading to the Lincoln Theater.  [Picture by Mike Fak]
