[February 05, 2008]  (AP) Strong thunderstorms will develop throughout the South and into the Ohio Valley on Tuesday. The southern Mississippi Valley will see the most thunderstorms, as well as hail. Tornadoes are likely.

Storms were also predicted all the way north into the Ohio Valley and western Pennsylvania. There is a chance of tornadoes and hail there, but wind gusts over 60 mph are expected to be the main threat.

In the West, the Northwest will see heavy precipitation. There will be rain in areas under about 2,000 feet, snow accumulations of 5-10 inches near the snow line, and up to 2 feet of snow at high elevations.

To the south, California and the Southwest will remain dry.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Monday ranged from a low of minus 11 degrees at Presque Isle, Maine, to a high of 97 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
