High pressure was expected to continue over Northern California, keeping cloud cover at bay. Another high over the central Rockies was likely to bring clearing skies to the Four Corners region, though the northern Rockies were to continue seeing snow.
The Plains and the South were expected to warm up. High temperatures in southern Texas could reach into the low 90s, with highs in Florida possibly reaching the 80s.
Cloud cover was expected to linger over the East and Midwest. Coastal areas could see a clearing, but the interior of New England and the Great Lakes were to see dense overcast skies.
Though temperatures in the northern Plains were expected to be relatively moderate on Friday, they were predicted to drop to minus 20 overnight from Montana through North Dakota and into Minnesota.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of minus 20 degrees at Alamosa, Colo., to a high of 89 degrees at Okeechobee, Fla.
