Rain and snow should move into the Northeast while rain and thunderstorms slide toward the Southeast. Snow should mainly stay north of the Ohio River in the Midwest and north and west of New Jersey in the Northeast. Western New York downwind of Lake Erie should get the most snow.
Temperatures should be colder than normal in the Midwest, but not as chilly as the record-breaking temperatures Monday.
In the West, there should be clear skies and warm weather in the West Coast and interior. High temperatures throughout California were expected to rise a few degrees from Monday, and the warmth should spread into Nevada and the Four Corners region.
The Northwest, however, will get clouds and some precipitation.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from minus 40 degrees at International Falls, Minn., to a high of 86 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
