A trough of low pressure was expected to sweep into the Northwest and dump significant snow in Washington and Oregon. Snow also was forecast for the Northern Plains, Great Basin and Central Rockies as the trough moves east.
Clear skies were forecast for much of the Southwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 24 degrees at Land O Lakes, Wis., to a high of 88 degrees at McAllen, Texas.
