Relatively cold air was expected to press into the northeastern third of the country.
Meanwhile, significant snow was forecast from the Dakotas through the Great Lakes. Dangerously low wind chills to
minus 40 degrees were expected.
Also, significant snow was predicted in the Four Corners region. The precipitation was expected to move into the Southwest as the day progresses. Strong winds of up to 45 mph are anticipated for parts of California and the Great Basin.
Temperatures in the Northeast were to be in the 20s and 30s, while the Southeast should have temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The Northern Plains should struggle to rise above 0 degrees, while the Northwest was expecting temperatures in the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 19 degrees at International Falls, Minn., to a high of 87 degrees at El Centro, Calif.
