An unsettled front was expected to move through the Southeast and bring wet weather to the Northeast. Warm air may allow temperatures to rise into the 50s as far north as Maine.
Cold air will plunge south from Canada and temperatures in the Midwest could fall into the single digits for daytime highs. Even colder temperatures were on tap after nightfall.
In the West, high pressure will last one more day, and clear skies should continue throughout the region. Highs in the 50s will reach north into Washington, while California will see temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Sunday ranged from a low of minus 18 degrees at Houlton, Maine, to a high of 86 degrees at Tampa Vandenberg, Fla.
