Rain and snow were predicted for the Northern and Central Plains as well as the Upper Midwest. Snow was also likely in the Upper Great Lakes.
The Florida Peninsula was to stay dry, but scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue through the eastern Gulf States.
In the West, rain and snow showers were to move to the Rockies, and precipitation was likely from the Pacific Northwest to Northern California through Thursday.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 20 degrees at Pinedale, Wyo., to a high of 88 degrees at Harlingen, Texas.
