Sally J. Litterly, Logan County clerk,
announced Friday that Illinois state law has created a "grace
period" between Jan. 9 and Jan. 22 for people to register to vote.
The primary election has been moved up six weeks to Feb. 5. Litterly
said that during this "grace period" individuals may register and
vote in person during normal office hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Monday through Friday, and on Saturday, Jan 19, from 9 a.m. to
noon. Those who register to vote during this two-week grace period
must also vote in the office at the same time. People who register
during this period are not eligible to vote at their precinct
polling place on Feb. 5.

According to the State Board of Elections, in 2006, the first year
for the extended registration, a total of 2,367 people registered

at least 30 days prior to the election.
In addition, Litterly added that her office is now open for
absentee balloting Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
