The heaviest snow spawned by the Northwest storm was expected in the Cascades. Also in the West, snow was expected in the Intermountain West and the Rockies.
The Plains were expected to remain dry.
Forecasters predicted the tail end of a cold front would bring scattered showers to the coastal Southeast and Florida panhandle. Morning showers were also expected along the Mid-Atlantic coast.
Cooler temperatures were expected in the northern half of the country and lake effect snow was expected in the Great Lakes region.

Temperatures in the northern Plains were expected to range from the 10s to the 30s, while the southern Plains were expected to be in the 60s and 70s. The Northwest was expected to be in the 30s and 40s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of minus 10 degrees at Alamosa, Colo., to a high of 84 degrees at Marathon, Fla.
