The storm from the Gulf of Alaska was expected to reinforce an already waterlogged California from the past several days, with heavy rain totals expected, especially in the hills along the coast. The storm was expected to bring warmer temperatures, melting snow on the ground, creating more water running off the mountainsides.
Flooding was anticipated throughout California from north of the San Francisco Bay to Southern California.
In the Sierra Nevada mountains, especially around lake Tahoe, new snow was expected. As the storm moves eastward it was expected to bring only a few light snow showers.
Some light to moderate rain was also anticipated in the Southern Plains.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of minus 34 degrees at Cook, Minn., to a high of 82 degrees at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
