From the Mississippi Valley to the Midwest, rain and snow were expected.

In the West, cooler temperatures were expected along the coast. The Sierras and Cascades could pick up a few inches to half a foot of snow.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of minus 20 degrees at Cut Bank, Mont., to a high of 84 degrees at Alice, Texas.
