Oasis Update

[January 30, 2008]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Breakfast bingo

Happy New Year breakfast bingo! The Oasis and Liberty Village will sponsor the Jan. 31 breakfast bingo. Breakfast will feature biscuits and gravy, party eggs, bacon, and fruit. The cost is $3.50. Doors open at 8:30 and breakfast will be served 9 a.m. Bingo will follow.

Free tax assistance

The Oasis is offering free tax assistance. The tax volunteers at the center are trained in the TaxWise software but are not trained tax professionals. If your form is complicated or outside the guidelines established, please seek the assistance of a tax professional. Tax services will begin Friday and will go though April 11 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please call the senior center for an appointment at 732-6132.

Services for caregivers

Amanda Harmon from Area Agency on Aging will be available to assist caregivers with services and resources within the community. She will be at The Oasis from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. For more information, call 732-6132.

Book club

The book club at the senior center will meet on Monday, beginning at 1 p.m. This club rekindles the rewards of reading a book and either sharing your thoughts with the group or just sitting back and listening. Refreshments provided.

Meeters and Greeters

The Meeters and Greeters will meet at the senior center on Monday, beginning at 2 p.m.

Red Hat group

The Oasis Belles will meet on Tuesday, beginning 11 a.m. If you are staying for lunch, the suggested donation is $3.25 for a lunch reservation. Deadline for reservations is noon Monday.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Feb. 5 features goulash, tossed salad, garlic bread and dessert. The suggested donation is $3.75, or if you stay to play cards, the suggested cost is $3.25. The deadline is Monday noon.

Hearing and screening test

Free hearing and screening tests will be available Feb. 6 between 10 and 11:30 a.m. The service is provided by Joyce Dearth, B.C.H.I.S., from the Hearing Aid Center. For an appointment, call the senior center at 732-6132.

Bingo at the Rec

For Tuesday night bingo at the Lincoln Rec Center on Feb. 5, there will be a computer sale: 33 percent (cost $8), 45 percent ($9) and 50 percent ($10). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Early bird is 5:50 p.m.

Card winners announced

The winners for weekday pinochle were Betty Oltmanns and Linda Hughes. Kathy Roos and Helen Cart were the weekend pinochle winners.
