Snow was forecast for the Central Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley.
Meanwhile, a Pacific storm system was expected to slam into the Northwest coast. Rain and high-elevation snow were likely in western Washington and Oregon. The system was also expected to move into northern California.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of minus 32 degrees at Bottineau, N.D., to a high of 83 degrees at Melbourne, Fla.
