[July 12, 2008]  (AP)  Potentially severe thunderstorms were forecast for the Plains and Ohio Valley on Saturday. The storms were to bring heavy rain and strong winds, as well as hail and possibly tornadoes. Flooding was likely. Temperatures in the Northern and Central Plains were to be in the 70s, while the Southern Plains was to be in the 80s and 90s.

The Northeast was to be mostly clear and warm, with late clouds. Temperatures were to hit the 80s and 90s.

The Southeast was to see seasonable afternoon showers and thunderstorms packing heavy rain and dusty wind. Hail was a possibility. Temperatures were to be in the 80s and 90s.

The Southwest was to see seasonable thunderstorms across the Four Corners region. The storms were to produce downpours, frequent lightning and gusty winds. The rest of the Southwest was to get hot and dry conditions. Temperatures were expected to cool slightly but still reach 90s and 100s.

The Northwest was to mostly be clear and pleasant, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 29 degrees at Meacham, Ore., to a high of 116 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
