God’s Big Back Yard?

VBS is all about service! “God’s Big
Backyard” is the place this summer where kids will have a blast
serving Jesus in their very own neighborhoods! Our memory verse for
VBS will be Mark 12:29-31. “Love the Lord your God, with all your
heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all
your strength. Love your neighbor as yourself.” Our kids will
learn that loving God and loving others includes faithful service to
Jesus

is Helping Kids Discover How to Serve Jesus!
It was a bitter,
cold day in January when I (Marcia) attended a VBS review in a room
that was 54 degrees. The tingling in my feet made it difficult to
think about VBS in July! As I heard more about God’s Big Back Yard
I became very excited! It just made sense; helping kids understand
there are places they go everyday where they can share the love of
Jesus as they serve Him. In addition, I knew our church was
planning to participate in Together for Lincoln in the fall
of 2008. (Together for Lincoln is a community service
project that many churches in Lincoln will join hands to
accomplish. We will be going out to connect with our friends and
neighbors with some of their basic needs, such as home repairs.) I
was so excited to think that our kids could be paving the way for
all of us to make an impact as we serve Jesus in Lincoln, Illinois.
VBS Is Connecting
with Together for Lincoln!
One of the things our kids will be doing at VBS is making cards
for very single resident at every nursing home in Lincoln! These
cards will be distributed during the Together for Lincoln
Sunday! Our kids service to our community won’t stop with cards
though! Another way they will help Lincoln is through their
giving. This year every child will be given a small pouch to bring
their offering in each evening. Their offering will be used to
purchase materials for Together for Lincoln projects. If you
would like to help our kids make their goal just offer to help fill
a child’s pouch one evening!
VBS Is Connecting
with Families!
As VBS comes to a close on Friday, July 18, our kids will have
an opportunity to serve Jesus and their families through the “God’s
Big Backyard Block Party!” That night all VBS kids and their
families are invited to a celebration of everything they will have
learned and experienced during the week. It will be an awesome
outreach opportunity for our church. We hope you will join us!

VBS is Everyone Getting Involved!
Pray for VBS
You will receive this “Call” just a few days before VBS kicks
off. Many of you have already plugged in to this annual event and
to you we say a heartfelt thank-you!!! We do have a great need and
that is for your prayers. We are asking everyone to pray for our
week of VBS. Pray for our workers and children. Pray that young
hearts will be forever changed by the power of Jesus.
VBS Supplies
Still Needed
Check the supply lists at the Welcome Centers for supplies that
are still needed and information about when to bring them to the
church.
Nursery School
News
Lincoln Christian Church Preschool will continue to take
applications for the fall 2008-2009 school year. Applications may
be picked up at the church office or by calling 732-7618. Classes
are offered are; a two or three day morning class for three year
olds, a three day morning class or four day afternoon class for four
