[July 21, 2008]  (AP)  Tropical storms Dolly and Cristobal were to continue spinning away in the Atlantic Basin on Monday.

Cristobal was to pull away from the North Carolina coastline in the morning, but showers and gusty winds were to last until around daybreak. The storm was to speed northeast later Monday, possibly clipping the western tip of Cape Cod with high winds and rain very late in the day.

Dolly, meanwhile, was to move over Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula before re-emerging in the Gulf of Mexico in the afternoon. Forecasts called for the storm to reach hurricane strength before making landfall around the U.S.-Mexican border.

In addition to precipitation from Cristobal in Massachusetts, the Northeast was to see thunderstorms and steady rain from New York to Maine. Some of the precipitation was to make its way west into the Great Lakes and Plains.

The West was to see mostly clear skies, but showers and thunderstorms were forecast for the mountains of southern California and the Southwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Sunday ranged from a low of 35 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 105 degrees at Imperial, Neb.
