[July 23, 2008]  (AP)  Hurricane Dolly was expected to make landfall Wednesday near the Texas-Mexico border, bringing up to 15 inches of rain to southern Texas. Flooding was anticipated, especially along the coast, because of the heavy rain and storm surge.

Showers and thunderstorms were forecast along the East Coast as a front moves through the region. Severe storms packing heavy rain, strong winds, hail and possible tornadoes could rake the Northeast. Temperatures in the East were predicted to range from the 70s and 80s in the Northeast to the 90s and 100s in the Southeast.

Low pressure was expected to kick up showers across the northern and central Plains. Severe storms, including damaging winds and tornadoes, were possible. Temperatures in the 80s and 90s were forecast across the northern and central Plains, with 70s in the upper Midwest and 100s in the southern Plains.

Mostly sunny skies were expected across the Pacific Northwest, while Montana and Idaho could see showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures across the Northwest were expected be in the 60s along the coast, with 70s and 80s inland.

California and Nevada were likely to be mostly clear, while showers and thunderstorms were forecast for the Four Corners. Temperatures across most of the region were expected to range from the 80s and 90s, with desert areas reaching 110.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of 37 degrees at Headquarters, Idaho, to a high of 114 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
