[June 04, 2008]  The National Weather Service in Lincoln has extended the flood warning for urban areas and small streams in Logan, DeWitt, Piatt and northern Macon counties in central Illinois until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A 9:09 a.m., law enforcement officials reported that flooding was continuing on several rural roadways due to the earlier heavy rain. Radar and surface reports indicated that 2 to 4 inches of rain fell Tuesday evening, with totals as high as 5 inches around Monticello. This was in areas that had already seen 2 to 3 inches Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Thunderstorms will be increasing again, especially Wednesday afternoon and evening. Some of them will produce locally heavy rainfall that may keep the flooding from receding as fast as normal.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, highways, and underpasses. Additionally, country roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks, streams and other low-lying areas are subject to flooding.

Report any flooding to your local emergency manager or the nearest law enforcement agency for relay to the National Weather Service.
