Storms producing damaging winds and hail could continue from Nebraska through eastern Texas. Less severe storms were forecast for the Northeast because of a stalled low pressure system over the Great Lakes that has lost most of its moisture and strength.
Clear skies were forecast over most of the Southeast as a front moves into the Atlantic. However, scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected in Florida as the front hangs over the northern Caribbean. Thunderstorms were likely to pop up again in the Gulf Coast states later this week.
The Pacific Northwest could see scattered showers Wednesday as a trough moves into British Columbia, bringing cool air into the region. The Southwest was expected to be hot and dry, with temperatures in the 80s and 90s across most of the region and triple digits in the desert areas.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Truckee-Tahoe, Calif., to a high of 111 degrees at Bullhead City, Ariz.
