[June 23, 2008]  (AP)  Storms were to spark from the East Coast to the Ohio River Valley and in the High Plains on Monday, while the flooded Midwest was to get some much-needed sunshine and moderate temperatures.

Thunderstorms will continue throughout the day in the East as a trough of low pressure slips through the region. Strong winds were anticipated with cool temperatures, promoting the development of large hail.

In addition, heavy rain was expected along with these storms, and some of the slower moving storm cells will likely cause urban and small stream flooding.

In the Northwestern Plains and foothills of the Rockies, strong thunderstorms also were anticipated. Like the storms in the East, these will likely contain large hail, strong winds and heavy rain.

In the western interior, temperatures will remain hot throughout Monday, but cool temperatures will spread inland from the coast. The Southwest was to have triple-digit temperatures.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Sunday ranged from a low of 27 degrees at Chemult, Ore., to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
