Heavy rain, sleet and snow were forecast for northern Missouri and the western portions of the Great Lakes region. The intensity of the rain could provoke a snow-melt that would trigger flooding in the Upper Mississippi Valley.
Fair and dry conditions were anticipated for the Mid-Atlantic states.
In the Northwest, Pacific moisture was expected to stream inland throughout the day, bringing snow to the Cascades and Intermountain West. Sunny skies were forecast for the Southwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of minus 4 degrees at Driggs, Idaho, to a high of 94 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
