Bond was set at $10,000 for Richard T. Schmidt on felony charges of aggravated battery, said John Gorman, a spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal property damage.
Schmidt, 25, was arrested Saturday night at a bar in Forest Park. Local police said officers were sent to the bar because a witness said Schmidt was intentionally breaking tables by jumping and landing on them back-first.
He was taken to the police station, where he elbowed one officer in the face, attacked a sergeant and spit at a paramedic, according to Forest Park Deputy Police Chief Thomas Aftanas. No one was seriously hurt.
The Chicago Police Department said Schmidt was relieved of his duties, but didn't give further information.
Schmidt's attorney, Thomas Needham, did not immediately return a call for comment on Monday.
