[March 08, 2008]  CHICAGO (AP) -- Jonathan Cheechoo, Kyle McLaren and Patrick Marleau scored as the San Jose Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Friday night and tied a team record with their eighth straight victory.

Joe Thornton added two assists for the Sharks, whose streak equals the team's run from April 3-15, 2006. San Jose also won its sixth straight on the road, tying a team high. The Sharks have the NHL's best road record at 23-8-3.

Brent Seabrook and Jonathan Toews scored for the Blackhawks, whose three-game winning streak ended. Chicago is 8-4-0 in its last 12.

Seabrook's power-play goal opened the scoring 3:35 in. He pinched to the edge of the crease and swatted in a rebound of Patrick Sharp's shot.

Cheechoo tied it at 1 17 seconds later. From the front of the net, he chopped in Thornton's centering pass from behind the net.

McLaren gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead at with 7:15 left in the first when he skated down the slot and converted Thornton's feed from behind the net.

Toews tied it with 1:51 remaining in the period when he deflected in Duncan Keith's drive from the left point.

Marleau's goal with 5:29 left in the second, his fourth in three games, gave San Jose a 3-2 lead. After gaining a step on Seabrook, he snapped a shot from the left circle that beat Patrick Lalime under the blocker.

Lalime, normally Chicago's backup, made 20 saves in his seventh start in eight games. Chicago's No. 1 goalie, Nikolai Khabibulin, missed his eight straight game with back spasms.

An apparent tying goal by Chicago's Rene Bourque with 31.2 seconds left in the third period was disallowed. Bourque redirected a shot by Dustin Byfuglein into the net with his glove.

The Blackhawks' loss came on a night when the team saluted Hall of Famers Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita, probably the biggest players in the team's history, in a ceremony before the game.

[to top of second column]

Hull is the Blackhawks' career goals leader with 604, while Mikita holds team records for career points (1,467), assists (926) and games played (1,394). Both starred with the Blackhawks in the 1960s and into the 1970s, and played for Chicago's last Stanley Cup winning team, in 1961.

Notes:@ Evgeni Nabokov made 17 saves for San Jose. ... The crowd of 21,908 was Chicago's largest this season and sixth sellout, the most the team has had since 2001-02. ... Sharks GM Doug Wilson, who played 14 seasons with the Blackhawks - and holds team career records for goals and assists by a defenseman - was part of the pregame ceremony and loudly cheered.
